Meditation involves much more than just relaxing and dealing with our thoughts and emotions. Meditation is actually a process of seeking truth or understanding, of trying to discover the nature of existence and of the human mind. To discover such knowledge, we have to go very deeply into meditation and find out who we really are (Awakening the Balanced Mind, 73).
The mind creates confusion and suffering as well as clarity and beauty. When we acknowledge mind’s versatility, we may discover we can go beyond superficial problems and attune ourselves to mind as a source of inspiration, guidance, and balance. This class invites us to explore mediation as the way to encounter and discover fundamental dimensions of mind. Using Tarthang Tulku’s, Awakening the Balanced Mind, a new and revised edition of his classic Gesture of Balance, we will combine practice and discussion to “let the mind be completely open, with a balanced, free energy” (p. 117). The class is suitable for those with some meditation experience and for those wishing to explore deeper dimensions of mind through meditation.
